Judged blind, in Europe, against the field.
Mar Azul Coconut was awarded Double Gold at the European World Spirits Competition. A Double Gold means the panel was unanimous: every judge scored it gold. For a flavored tequila, judged beside traditional expressions, that is unusual.

What Double Gold means
Spirits are scored blind by a panel. A gold is awarded when a spirit scores above the gold threshold. A Double Gold is awarded only when every judge on the panel independently scores it gold, with no dissent. Most entrants never receive one.
Why the Coconut
Because it is blended, not infused. The Coconut starts as 100% Blue Weber agave silver tequila and is blended with real coconut rather than dosed with flavoring after the fact. The agave is still legible underneath, which is what the panel was tasting.
